ITV newsreader Mary Nightingale has been announced as patron of the Rainbow Trust Children's Charity, which provides palliative care for children with terminal or life threatening illnesses, and emotional and practical support for their families.

Nightingale, who's supported the charity in the past by hosting events and raising awareness, said 'I have children of my own and can't imagine how hard it must be when your child is diagnosed with a life threatening illness. I'm happy to do everything I can to raise awareness about the fantastic work that Rainbow Trust does and am delighted to have officially joined the team'.
